Tinkers Trek

Your neighborhood is the adventure.

Walk your real streets as a little robot. Mine, chop, fish and hunt in quick hands-on minigames, haul it all home, and build a factory to put your best friend back together.

Vondelpark in Amsterdam drawn in chunky blocks: the little robot and a pink axolotl pet stand among glowing resource rings, with ponds, paths and rooftops behind.

How it starts

Your friend fell out of the sky. Right onto your street.

Two little robots were drifting high above the Earth when something hit. One fell, and the other dove after it. Now your friend lies in pieces where you're standing, and you're the only one who can put it back together.

Everything it needs is out there in your neighborhood: ore under the streets, timber in the park, fish in the canal. Go and get it.

The robot friend slumped broken in its cradle, the player's robot standing behind it.
Your friend, still in pieces, in the Cradle you built for it.

How it plays

Walk. Play. Build.

The map screen: the robot and its axolotl beside crystal and steel nodes in a park.

Walk your real streets

Parks, rivers, shops and back alleys, all drawn from real map data. Glowing rings mark ore, timber, fish, herbs and wild things worth chasing.

A fishing round: a fish fighting inside the catch bar.

Play a quick minigame

Tap a ring and you're in. Whirl a pick into a seam, sort falling logs, fight a fish on the line. Seconds long, and all about your hands.

The home base with its build button: machines, an overhead duct and the friend's cradle.

Build it into something

Carry your haul home to your house on the map. Smelt it, saw it, weave it and wire it into machines, and watch the factory take shape.

Six minigames

Every node is a little game of its own

  • The mine: the pick swung hard into an ore seam, sparks bursting from the strike.

    Mining

    Swing for the seam

Grab the pick, whirl it up to speed and smash the ore loose. Just don't hit the dynamite.

  • The clearing: the robot swings its axe into the log column and a clean log flies off toward the rack.

    Woodcutting

    Sort the falling logs

Strike each log as it drops and send it flying: good wood onto the rack, rotten wood into the fire.

  • The pond: a fish held inside the green catch bar on a long water column, the rod above.

    Fishing

    Keep it on the line

Hold to keep the fish inside your bar while it fights. Let the line go slack and it's gone.

  • The thicket from above: the robot among broad leaves, pollen bursting around it.

    Foraging

    Peel back the leaves

Pull the leaves aside to see what's growing underneath. Wait for the bees to wander off first.

  • The hunt from above: an arrow in flight past a spider on its web.

    Hunting

    Draw, lead, let fly

Pull back the bow, lead your target and loose. Wound it, and follow its trail across the map.

  • The arena: the robot slashes at an orc from a ring of stepping stones while danger tiles glow.

    Combat

    Dodge, then strike

Step off the glowing tiles before the blow lands, then swipe back. All the way up to the Ice Dragon.

One node in a hundred is a mega node: three times the size, three times the haul, and three times the chance of something rare.

Your home

Build a factory in your backyard

Your house stands on the real map, and walking through its front door is how you bring your haul home. Behind it is a yard that's all yours to clear, grow and fill.

A home-base factory in a backyard: kilns, a glassworks, tanneries, a loom and storage hatches, linked by an overhead duct on posts, with the robot friend in its cradle.
Charcoal, copper, glass, leather and rope, made in one backyard. An overhead duct carries fuel across.

Machines that work while you walk

Set down kilns, smelters, looms and tanneries. Load them up before you head out and come home to bars, glass, leather and rope.

Ducts, pipes and power

Run ducts along the ground or overhead so goods flow on their own, pipe in water, and wind up power from the steps you walked.

From charcoal to computer chips

Start with a kiln and a heap of copper. Ten eras later you're growing crystals and printing chips in a clean room, through bronze, steel, steam and electricity on the way.

Every part you fit shows on your friend.

The long game

Rebuild your friend, one part at a time

Ten parts, ten eras

A hinge so it can nod again. Glass eyes so it can see. A heart so it can make power, a memory so it can learn, and at the very end a mind of its own. Each part takes everything you've learned to make.

And every part changes what it does

Your friend restarts stalled machines, ferries goods between storage and the line, and keeps the lights on. Finish it, and it climbs out of the Cradle to walk the map beside you.

And then

Build a rocket. Send your friend home.

Your friend came from up there. Restore the old launch pad behind your house, fill the tanks and stack a rocket from everything your factory can make.

Start with a sounding rocket, then reach orbit, the Moon and beyond. Every flight brings something back, and the neighbors will have opinions.

Grow

Level up the way you remember

The skills sheet: total level 374, with Mining at 47 and Tinkering at 40.

Nine skills, each to 99

Mining, Woodcutting, Fishing, Foraging, Hunting and Combat grow on their boards. Tinkering grows at your bench, Agility with every step, and Taming with your pets. Better tools, richer nodes and new recipes open as you climb.

Hatch a sidekick

Eggs turn up on the boards and around your neighborhood. Hatch one, feed it and take it walking. Every pet has its own talents, it can work a shift in your factory, and one raised to 99 keeps its bonus forever.

Anywhere on Earth

Wherever you live, that's the level

The map comes from OpenStreetMap, so it works wherever you are. Parks grow herbs and timber, rivers hold fish, old town streets hide ore, and the same corner holds the same finds for everyone who walks past it today.
